About Me

I have worked supporting people for well over 20 years, and it has really made me appreciate how amazing people are in the way that they are able to adapt and deal with adversity.

Before I became a qualified counsellor, I was a social worker. I initially worked with people aged over 65 and their carers, and then with 16-21 year olds who were in or leaving care. As a social worker I realised the effect that childhood experiences can have on all of us, and the impact of all loss, be that through bereavement, loss of health, losing family or loved ones, loss of your identity or role in life. I also became acutely aware of how important it is to have someone to be alongside you in difficult times.

I realised that the part of being a social worker that I really valued was the direct work with an individual and building that trusting relationship to enable someone to make the changes that they want in their lives. This is what motivated me to complete my counselling training, and work as a counsellor.

I now have a private counselling practice, working with adults and older teenagers, at my therapy room in Canterbury. I also counsel for 1 and 1/2 days a week in a school working with neurodiverse students, and I volunteer for one morning a week at a community counselling service working with adults.

I am qualified as an integrative therapist, which means that I have been trained in a range of counselling theories and I make use of these to meet the needs of my clients.
